Evelien Slegers is een vocalist, studerend aan het
conservatorium in Tilburg. Naast het opvoeren van (jazz)muziek liggen haar interesses bij het componeren van muziek en het schrijven van teksten.

Evelien Slegers is a vocalist and songwriter from Tilburg. Over the past few years she has been developing and exploring herself as a performer and composer, studying Jazz vocals at the conservatory in Tilburg. Her music is highly inspired by natures’ calm, rawness and beauty. Through her music and lyrics, Evelien tries to reflect these sources of inspiration, relating them back to her own personal stories.

The sound of the vocalists’ voice and music is often described as pure, light and natural, while her lyrics are more honest, raw and sometimes even quite confronting, which creates contrast in her songs. Because of her education, her music has jazz influences, which she likes to blend with other genres like pop, folk and a Nordic sound. Using instruments like harp, double bass, viola, flute and backing vocals, her songs tend to carry a earthy, layered sound, while still keeping the song-structures quite minimalistic and poppy. A few artists where Evelien is influenced and inspired by are Joni Mitchell, Madison Cunningham, Paul Simon, Esperanza Spalding, Kika Sprangers and Lianne la Havas.

The singer-songwriter also finds it very important to actively research societal issues like feminism and animal rights and likes to include those subjects into her songwriting too. In 2020 the vocalist formed a duo with guitarist Erik Verberne, with whom she regularly writes and performs. Lastly, she works as a teacher both independently as well as at Muziekschool Brabant, giving vocal and songwriting lessons to people from a wide variety of ages and levels.

Upcoming EP

In the spring of 2026, Evelien plans to release her debut EP, titled ‘Sage Green’. Through this EP she tries to tell the story of how she feels that people are just ‘green’ and inexperienced creatures, compared to the sage (wise) nature around them, that has been developing and learning for billions of years. She hopes to convey people to take better care of the world around them, but also to turn to nature more often when they struggle with something. She says: ‘I think that many answers to many problems are right there; in nature. We just have to listen to it more’.
